Hi everyone,
My name is Saylor Salm, and I was one of ElkhartCares’ very first scholarship recipients. My family was struggling to make ends meet, like when we needed new clothes, they were always second-hand. ElkhartCares made a difference. Their support helped me pursue my education, earn my master’s degree, and step into a career I love.
When I moved back home, I knew I wanted to give back to the organization that had invested in me, so I reached out to ElkhartCares and asked if I could volunteer. Today, I’m proud to serve as ElkhartCares’ Volunteer Executive Assistant. In that role, I’ve had the privilege of helping families in so many ways—whether it’s filling gas tanks, taking families shopping so their children have warm winter clothing, properly fitting school shoes, and other essentials, wrapping gifts for the holidays, or helping with events that bring our community together.
What I’ve learned through this work is that ElkhartCares isn’t just about meeting needs—it’s about creating hope and connection. I am living proof of how one act of generosity can grow into a ripple effect of giving.
I’m so grateful for the support I received, and grateful to now stand alongside the ElkhartCares team to keep this mission going. Thank you for your support of ElkhartCares, and for helping us continue to change lives—one student, one family, one neighbor at a time.”
